After 25 years filled with youthful exuberance and optimistic expansion, “Les Bloomers” have decided to sell their vineyard and production cellar on the east side of Seneca Lake in Hector and return to their home vineyard on the west side of Cayuga Lake in Ovid. This move is a return “home” for Kim and Debra - a return to where it all began in 1982 - to the farmhouse where cloudless summer skies stretch from horizon to horizon over vineyards and broad fields of tasseled corn and golden wheat; where the silver light of spring brightens shadbush and cherry blossoms in hedgerows and woodlots; and on gray winter days North Wind whispers about the eaves of the grand, old, Greek Revival home standing above a creek that wanders past rows of grapevines - Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Franc. Kim and Debra are heading back to the old farmhouse where Susan Elekta Brewer (grandmother to Joe Myer, owner/master distiller Myer Farm Distillers, Ovid, NY) once lived as a child. Hanging on a wall in the farmhouse parlor is an old photograph, taken in 1885, showing a four year old Susan Elekta standing between her grandparents posing with their big, black horse by a fence in front of their white farmhouse. Kim and Debra want to continue to forge the history of this place, this farmhouse, now filled with the story of Bloomer Creek wine, a story of humble finesse and quiet beauty.
